Week Beginning 15th May 2017…

  • May 19, 2017

All pictures of the last week are up on the website please enjoy. There are some great allotment pictures this week capturing their new friends the frog and the slowworm up there, so please look.

Working as a team…

It was lovely to see the older Gibbons leading the younger ones through their own make shift tunnel from long big cardboard boxes. The team cut out windows in the tunnels for the children to peer through as they were passing. The exciting of what some cardboard boxes can do for their imagination will never old and it was lovely to see the team work of everyone helping each other move from the beginning to the end of the tunnel. Shortly after all the excitement, the tunnel sadly was destroyed by our playful Gibbons. Using balls to rub in the coloured paint and roll onto a large sheet of paper to create a masterpiece of colour infusion. The Gibbons all took a piece of the painted paper to take home to show off to their families. Aswell as last week’s arrival of our new black and white area in the Gibbon rooms, this week the children created some black and white collages using the distinct colour themed zig zag patterns and glitter to create their master pieces. The wonderful artwork will be on display in our monochrome areas highlighting their creativity and understanding for colours. Finally, our Gibbons have been doing what they love to do, in trying on wacky and wonderful costumes in the dress up cabin from bling jewellery to wacky hats to superheroes and princesses.

Anyone for a cup of gloop tea?…

The Baboons made their very own gloop from water and flour mixing together with their hands to feel the textures of the ingredients. They added it to teapots and cups and invited all their friends to tea for some lovely afternoon tea glop style! Another texture the Baboons explored this week were the water beads. The interesting little colourful beads were in tray for the children to scoop and play with their hands and utensils. Enjoying the new geo boards that Ebone and Alice made on our inset day, the Baboons investigated the boards and weaved and threaded string, wool and ribbon over, under and through the hooks and nails to design shapes. They also used elastic bands which they enjoyed stretching over the pins. From Baboons to fisherman and fisherwomen, everyone bundled together in their cardboard boat along with fabric nets to catch all the lovely fish. Everyone wore their YF vests to go out to sea and have their adventure.

Walking & Wheeling to nursery…

What a fantastic week it’s been for ‘Walking and Wheeling Week’ and our Gorillas have really got involved. Some have been scooting to nursery, some have been walking and to reward them all we have been giving stickers out every day and at the end of week certificates have been awarded. The children spoke about what they saw on their way to nursery and if they like walking or coming by their scooter instead. When the Nature kids went up to the allotment, they went on a 5-minute walk around the grounds carrying out a wildlife hunt to see what animals and habitats they could find on their way. Aswell as they the Nature kids did another two-stop adventure trek after their lunch of yummy ham, cheese and cucumber sandwiches. The first stop was for everyone to sit in a circle and draw pictures of what they could observe. The second stop was to read a story about a first day at school. Back at nursery, the Gorillas have been cutting up pictures and words form magazines to create collages and role playing with pastas and lentils making ‘veg curry’ and lemon cake’. The umber of the week has been number 8, and the children have done various activities relating to this figure. ‘Huit’, ‘acht’ ‘osiem’ are all several ways to say eight in different languages which were learnt by the Gorillas. Not only this but they all tried to remember what they did on the 8th of this month whether maybe it was going to the park or maybe a birthday party

Nature Kids saw LOTS of weeding this week and Louise and Elisha laid lots of bark and woodchip to make things easier for everyone. Still a few sections to go! We have a camping loo up there now for a bit more comfort and a load of herbs have been planted in our herb garden. It’s been a wet week but it’s nice and warm so the children have been having a lovely healthy time up there.
