Week Beginning 10th July 2017…

Berry-licious Gibbons…

Chopping bananas, adding frozen berries and blackcurrants from the allotment, the Gibbons made an amazing berrylicious tasting smoothie. With adult supervision whilst learning to safely chop and cut using knives and mixing all the ingredients with spoons, the Gibbons were very excited to taste them after covering themselves in red and purple berries. Combining musical play and the Reggio Emilia Area, the Gibbons played with natural musical instruments and listening to the various sounds like the scraping against ridged wooden object and the sounds of beans shaking around in a container. Becoming their very own natural musical band, the Gibbons put on a show for everyone watching. Getting arty an creative, the Gibbons experiments with painting dabbing to sticking with glue and tissue paper to create colourful collages to take home. But their biggest creative task this week was out in the garden enjoying the sun whilst painting different shaped and sized stones to be used in their Reggio Area.

 It’s a car world…

With big traffic lights and zebra crossings, the Baboons got lost in the Small World Area zooming their cars in out of the winding roads and hurting to a stop when the traffic light showed red. When sitting at the traffic lights, the Baboons learnt that red means stop and that green means go the children raced each other around the tracks. After picking their fruits for their smoothie of the week last week, the Baboons are planning their trip to Taj. In preparation, they have been painting stones to match the colours of the fruit they have chosen for their smoothie of the week. From red strawberry, coloured stones to yellow banana coloured stones the Baboons made quite an array of colours. The dolls house was out in the room for roleplaying and the Baboons made families using the multicultural dolls, dressing them up and playing with all generation of dolls. Finishing the week off with a tasty treat, the Baboons chopped banana and used the blackberries from the allotment and blueberries to make yummy muffins.

 Welcoming new brothers and sisters…

Over the last month, some of our Gorillas and Baboons have had the lovely experience of welcoming a new sibling in to their families at home and we would like to congratulate all those families. Celebrating these wonderful new lives and changes into families lives at home, we decided in the Gorillas room to have a role play with our two brand new toy babies. The children played and cared for these babies like their mummies and daddies do and spoke about them having children themselves. They speak about being parents and how many children they would like to have. Some of our pre-schoolers this week had the pleasure of visiting their school on trip here from nursery with Neel and Nishat. They could see their new classrooms, teacher and even some of their old friends that went to Young Friends last year. They came back to Nursery to tell their other friends all about their visit. With going to school getting closer and closer, the pre-schoolers have also been roleplaying with the donated school uniform given by families. The Nature Kids went on a search for ripe fruits to bring back and they fortunately came across some delicious ripe blackcurrants and blackberries which they very kindly brought back as a present for the Baboons and Gibbons to use in their snack time. After studying wild flowers and fruits and vegetables that the Gorillas find up at the allotment, they could identify the large cabbages that we have regularly seen before. And finally, even though people say the bees are disappearing, our Gorillas stumbled upon some honeysuckle which was soon joined by a small gathering of bees collecting their honey. The Nature Kids talked about how Bees collect honey for their food and bring back to their families.
