Forest kindergarten is a type of preschool education for children that is held exclusively outdoors. Forest Kindergarten models the Forest School approach for the Early Years, and is based around child-centred learning through play. Forest Kindergarten offers young children frequent, regular play opportunities outdoors in a woodland setting (or natural setting with trees), in almost all weathers throughout the year. Our staff are all trained in Forest Kindergarten provision and we hold daily age appropriate sessions for all groups either in the woodland area of our local park, or our own woodland garden. Children are encouraged to play, explore and learn through activities and free play that involve teamwork, resourcefulness, problem solving, and an appreciation of the outdoors.
Forest school supports the Early Years Foundation Stage and marries with our Young Friends ethos perfectly, because its roots are in child-centred free play and getting children outdoors. The activities, that connect children with nature, enable children to have greater confidence plus deeper sense of themselves, a sense of place and a meaningful connection with the natural world.
