Bugs Bugs Bugs! 🕷️ We love to investigate the garden and allotment for bugs, then identify them with our books.

We have lots of books on local insects so the children feel excited and happy when they can find the right match for the insect they have found! 🐜

7 tips for Child Led Playtime 🧩 Let them 7 tips for Child Led Playtime

🧩 Let them choose the object to play with

🧩 Let them tell you what you'll be doing with it

🧩 Avoid using academic, interrogative questions like "What colour is it?", "Say this word" or "What shape is it?"

🧩 Notice what they are interested in and ask them about that, use open ended, narrative questions like "What would happen if..", "What are you going to do with that?" or "You pushed the red car down the ramp and parked the blue care over there!"

🧩 Praise their initiative

🧩 Laugh and be silly with them

🧩 Follow their lead and model what they are doing during playtime

We repurposed this building architrave into a fun We repurposed this building architrave into a fun playtime activity where we rolled the round loose parts down them.

The children loved this while also learning about gravity and momentum!

All it takes is some imagination to repurpose materials that would have otherwise been wasted.
To encourage our children to develop independence To encourage our children to develop independence and fine motor skills, they serve themselves the delicious food we prepare for them. Of course if they need some help we are there but generally they insist on serving themselves! We love to see them being confident and the older children will often help and guide the younger children! 🍝
One of our lovely Dad's wrote us a review! -

"We love Young Friends! Our daughter loves it there, and my wife and I love it too! We've seen her develop and make friends. We initially chose Young Friends because it was close to our house and our friend's daughter went there too, but now I can't imagine her being anywhere else.
The staff are lovely, the garden is full of stuff to do and she gets lovely meals and snacks! I would recommend to anyone considering a nursery for their children."
Our little helpers! Digging their new planting Our little helpers! Digging their new planting beds! 🚜

This is our new pathway we're putting into the all This is our new pathway we're putting into the allotment, it means we can access the beds and classroom easily and the beds are now raised so the children don't run all over the plants! The children now have their own bed that is only for the produce that they are growing, it's so exciting to know we will be serving food grown by our little ones! 🥕
Now we have our beach and forest school teacher we Now we have our beach and forest school teacher we are up to lots of great things and would love for you to read all about them, you can find the Outdoor Chronicles on our website through the link in our bio @youngfriendsnursery
How fun does this look! Here we were playing with How fun does this look! Here we were playing with natural clay and sticks, to make a forest! We created clay balls and pressed the sticks into the clay. It helped develop hand-eye co-ordination, understanding of materials and most importantly, having fun building their own forests! 🌲
